Smart Savings, Brilliant Smile
A child’s dental visit can feel stressful, especially when they have tooth pain, dental anxiety, or are unsure what will happen. At 512 Smiles, we provide gentle Children Dentistry in Austin to help kids feel comfortable and supported from the moment they arrive. We care for children of all ages, from infants and toddlers to adolescents and teens, and work closely with parents to protect each child’s oral health. Whether your child needs preventive care, a routine cleaning, fillings, or help with a dental concern, our team is here to make the visit feel calm, welcoming, and positive.
Children’s dentistry, also known as pediatric dentistry, is a special kind of dental care that’s tailored for kids as their teeth, gums and jaws grow. It includes regular visits, exams, cleanings, preventive care and treatment for common problems like cavities, toothaches or damaged teeth.
But it’s not just about fixing problems, pediatric dental care also teaches kids (and their parents) how to take care of their teeth at home. Our dentist can offer simple tips on brushing, flossing, healthy eating and protecting those teeth as they grow.
At 512 Smiles, we know that kids have different needs at different ages, so we’re patient and understanding. A toddler might just need some reassurance about the dentist chair, while a teenager might have questions about appearance, hygiene or treatment options.
Our goal is to make every visit a great experience, while providing top-notch dental care that’s tailored to each child’s needs. By making the dentist a nice place to visit, we help kids develop healthy habits that will last them a lifetime.
Children’s dentistry gives your family a helpful way to protect your child’s teeth before small concerns become bigger problems. Routine care supports a healthy smile, helps reduce anxiety, and gives parents reliable information about their child’s oral health.
We keep an eye on your child's teeth, gums, and overall oral health as they grow, which means we can spot problems early and help you get the care they need.
We teach kids (and parents) how to brush, floss and care for teeth at home - and that can help prevent cavities and keep those teeth healthy for years to come
When kids get used to coming to the dentist, it can make everything feel easier and less scary.
Infants, toddlers, children, adolescents, and teens all have changing dental needs. We tailor our dental services to your child’s age, comfort level, and health needs.
At 512 Smiles, we make every kid’s visit as smooth and stress-free as possible. Our team explains everything in simple terms, answers questions honestly and helps kids feel supported every step of the way.
When your family arrives at our Austin office, our friendly team will welcome you and help you get settled. We encourage parents to share their child’s dental concerns, health history, and past experiences before the visit begins.
We take time to help kids feel familiar with the dentist, the chair, and the space around them. For children with dental anxiety, we use gentle words and a calm approach to make the experience feel less overwhelming.
Our dentist checks the teeth, gums, bite, and overall oral health. This exam helps us look for cavities, signs of pain, and other concerns that may need treatment.
When appropriate, we gently clean the teeth and remove buildup. We may also discuss preventive care options that can help keep a child’s teeth strong and healthy.
Some patients may need X-rays so we can see areas that are not visible during an exam. We only recommend imaging when it can help us provide quality care and make informed treatment decisions.
After the exam, we explain what we found and answer questions in a clear way. We will discuss the benefits of any recommended treatment and help parents understand the next steps.
If your child needs another visit, fillings, or another procedure, our team will help you schedule it. We want every family to leave with a clear plan and confidence about moving forward.
Dental emergencies can happen while your child is playing, playing sports, or at home. Knowing what to do can help you stay calm and protect your child’s smile until they see a dentist.
If your child knocks out a permanent tooth, pick it up by the crown, not the root. Gently rinse it if needed, but do not scrub it. Try to place it back in the socket. If you cannot, keep it in milk or your child’s saliva and contact a dentist right away.
Rinse your child’s mouth with warm water and save any broken pieces. If there is bleeding, apply clean gauze. Use a cold compress for swelling, and contact the dentist for an evaluation.
Gently floss around the tooth to remove trapped food and rinse with warm salt water. Do not put aspirin directly on the tooth or gums. Contact the dentist if the pain continues or your child has swelling or a fever.
Apply clean gauze or a cloth to the area to control bleeding. Use a cold compress to help with swelling. If the bleeding does not stop or the injury is serious, seek medical care.
Keep basic supplies such as gauze, dental floss, saline solution, a small container with a lid, and your dentist’s contact information nearby.

At 512 Smiles, we recommend booking your child’s first appointment when their first tooth appears, or by their first birthday, whichever comes first. Doing that early lets us take a look at how their teeth are developing, and give you some tips on keeping them clean. We can even show you the right way to brush those tiny teeth and help lower the risk of cavities. The truth is, the sooner you get them in, the more comfortable they'll be with the dentist's office before any issues pop up and we want that first visit to be a breeze.
For most kids, it's a good idea to come in and see us about every six months for their regular check-ups. These visits give our doctors a chance to examine your child’s teeth and gums, provide a thorough cleaning, and identify any potential problems early. Every kid's different though, and some might need to come in more often. We'll work out what schedule works for your child, and explain why. Our goal is to keep their smile healthy with some simple, low-maintenance care.
Dental anxiety is common especially if it's a first-time visit. Our team will explain what's happening in a way that's easy for kids to understand, and let them get used to the office before we even start. If your kid is feeling a bit nervous, please let us know beforehand so we can give them a bit more support. We'll keep the pace chill, and do everything we can to be as gentle as possible. Our aim is to make your child feel safe and more confident with every visit.
Yeah, we do. At 512 Smiles, we're all about helping the kids who need a bit more help to get the dental care they need in a place that feels safe and supportive. We listen carefully to what parents have to say, and adjust our approach whenever we can to help your child feel more at ease. Some kids might need a bit more time, a bit more patience, or a visit that's a bit more relaxed and that's perfectly okay. We'll work with your family to find an approach that really works for your child.
If our dentist spots a cavity or anything else that's a concern, we'll explain it in a way that makes sense to both you and your child. We'll talk through what treatment is needed, why it's important, and what to expect during the visit. Our team will also chat through ways to keep your child as comfortable as possible. And before we even start, we're always happy to answer any questions you or your child might have. Our goal is to get your kid's smile back to perfect and keep their teeth healthy moving forward.
