For our patients who have a more mild level of anxiety, nitrous gas is a safe and effective option or minimal sedation. Nitrous gas will relax you, but not put you to sleep. You are able to drive to and from your visit, since it wears off quickly.
For our patients who have a greater level of anxiety or are undergoing longer procedure, we offer oral sedation options. Oral sedation will require you to have a personal escort to and from your appointment. We recommend consulting with your doctor regarding oral sedation options.
IV sedation is a safe and controlled option. This medication will help you feel deeply relaxed and less aware of the procedure. You may feel drowsy and less aware, but still be responsive. A personal escort will be needed to and from your appointment, as the effects take some time to wear off.
For more complex procedures or patients with severe dental anxiety, general anesthesia might be the right choice. You’ll be completely asleep and closely monitored throughout your treatment. Since recovery can take a little longer, a personal escort will be needed to and from your appointment. We’ll review all the details with you before your visit to ensure it’s the right choice for you.
